Update on Port Congestion Issues in China
As you may know, capacity in East-bound Trans Pacific trade lanes continues to be extremely tight. Port congestion is affecting all ports in China while carriers are rolling bookings for every vessel. Currently ports such as Shanghai are seeing up to 500 TEU's rolled per vessel and many containers are not being accepted at the port.
As we have been advised, the upcoming unconfirmed GRI effective May 1, 2010 is based on the receiving date of the container. If the ports do not accept the containers to be gated by April 30, 2010 the pending GRI can be charged accordingly. We are expecting space to stay scarce through May and June until carriers bring additional vessels into rotation. Our best course of action is to pre plan and book your shipments as early as possible. Griffin Global Logistics is working closely with our partners to ensure we minimize delays due to the current transportation market.
